From the Rock County District Attorney's Office:

(Janesville) David J. O’Leary, Rock County District Attorney, announced that Jason K. Jordon, 24, Beloit, Wis., was convicted of physical abuse of a child, a Class G felony, following a two day jury trial before the Honorable Richard T. Werner.

The facts as shown at trial were that on June 20, 2008, a five month old child was brought to the Beloit Memorial Hospital with multiple skull fractures.

The child's father, Brian Jordon, testified that he had left the child in the care of his brother, Jason Jordon, and when Brian Jordon returned from taking his wife to work, he discovered the injuries to the child.

Detective Craig Johnson of the Beloit Police Department testified that Jason Jordon admitted that he was the only person who cared for the child while Brian was gone, but claimed that the injuries happened when Jason Jordon accidentally dropped the child on the pavement while carrying him to the park.

Dr. Angela Carron, a pediatrician from the Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee testified that the two skull fractures suffered by the child were the result of two separate blunt force impacts and that the force needed to cause the type of injuries to the child could not have occurred the way that Jason Jordon described and would have required significantly more force to cause a skull fracture in a five month old child.

The jury deliberated for slightly more than 1 ½ hours before returning the guilty verdict. Judge Werner revoked Jason Jordon’s bond and ordered him into custody of the Rock County Sheriff’s Department and scheduled sentencing for December 17, 2008, at 2:30 p.m., in Courtroom B of the Rock County Courthouse.

At sentencing, Jason Jordon faces a potential penalty of a fine of not more than Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000), or imprisonment not more than ten (10) years, or both.
