For those of you looking to donate to charity this year, the opportunities are just about endless. And many are already getting involved.
"I actually see kids that I worked with in pre-school who are now in high school and college and doing so well. And that is really what keeps me going," said Rainbow Project Director Sharyl Kato.
The Project is a children's' mental health clinic, and they desperately need toys for the kids. Many of whom have never had any.
"It is a way for them to express what has happened to them in ways that are safe," added Kato.
For the past two weeks, MATC students have been collecting food for their Thanksgiving Food Drive. Today they dropped off a truckload at the Goodman Community Center.
Stated MATC student Sabrina Madison, "Every family, every individual should have something to eat on Thanksgiving. There should be no disconnect between eating and hunger and the supply of food."
The center's goal is to collect enough food to supply 1,000 families with a Thanksgiving basket.
"The community in the last few days has come in," said the Goodman Center's Lisa Jacob. "It has just been amazing. The amount of donations coming in food and cash that I think we are going to make it."
If you don't have any toys or the time to donate food, you can always give money.
Friday afternoon the Salvation Army kicked off their Kettle Campaign at the Miller and Sons Grocery store in Verona. Last year, they were the Army's largest contributor. Their kettle grossed nearly $35,000.
"We have always been in the upper level of donations. But somebody wanted us number one and they continued to fill the kettle," stated Carl Miller.
Miller said he has no idea who that person is.
"The ones that really care don't want to be known."
In order for the holidays to be memorable for the less fortunate in our area all of us need to help.
The Beloit Snappers are leading the way again. Any fan of the team that signs up for two hours of bell ringing will get one free general admission ticket for the upcoming season.
