Andy North is a Wisconsin legend. The 1968 Monona Grove High School Graduate is a two time PGA U.S. Open Champion and golf analyst for ESPN.

During his years on the lynx however, North has battled more than just the course. He has endured numerous bouts of skin cancer on his nose, ear and even scalp.

"I have spent a little bit of time in the sun over the last 40 years," he joked.

He has received dozens of procedure to treat the cancer, and on Tuesday he will get another. The Carbone Cancer Center has a new procedure that attacks possible cancer cells before they become a problem. But before North checks in, he has to do something he has never done before: shave his head.

"I was going to have to shave my head to have this procedure done anyway. So we thought it would be pretty cool to have it done on TV and raise some awareness for the Carbone Cancer Center here in town and at the same time maybe raise some money."

Live on our morning show on Monday, North along with his hair stylist of 25 years Bill Kaminski took a razor to his hair.

"It is going to grow back. He promised me. He promised it would be darker and there won't be any gray anymore. So it will be pretty cool. This has been pretty interesting and hopefully we can do some good with it," North concluded.

He is a legend here in Wisconsin. He is known throughout the world for his individual talent on the links. But former PGA golfer and golf analyst Andy North is teaming up with…. among others… an old friend as he continues to battle one of his greatest challenges in life.

Like most of us, Andy North has a special relationship with the guy who… for a long time now… has been cutting his hair.

Bill Kaminski says : “He's been an idol of mine, he started me playing golf when I first started cutting his hair 25 years ago.”

Bill Kaminski is the owner of Cost Cutters Salons. He and Andy typically see each other whenever Andy is back home off the PGA tour.

No longer on the links himself, Andy has been on the desk for years, serving as a commentator for ESPN. He’s also away often with his golf course design business. But this next trim… and trip home… are different.

Bill Kaminski says: “I've seen him go through cancer on his nose, his ear… and last time, on his scalp.”

Andy will soon have the latest in a series of procedures …done over approximately the last 20 years … to battle his skin cancer.

And this time, the intensive treatment will mean his entire head of hair needs to come off.

Andy North says: "We have family history. My dad had a lot of skin cancers, ended up dying because of a melanoma at some point in time.”

"We've all had too many friends go through chemo, scared to death of whole process and one of the side effects is losing hair. Well, I figure if I can run around a couple months without any hair, not any big deal, maybe that'll help someone down the road."

Andy has offered to have his head shaved LIVE Monday morning, on NBC15 The Morning Show. He'll literally just be flying back in from the tour. Bill Kaminski from Cost Cutters will join him in the studio. And they're both hoping the shave will raise more than cancer awareness.

I have always been proud of my brother. As his younger sister, he has been my "hero" for more than 50 years. He is an unassuming person, who, with many success' in life, has never clamored for attention. UNLESS it helps others. I lost my father to malignant melanoma 4 years ago. He had basal cell, squamous cell and then melanoma. My mother is a cancer survivor, an inspiration to me every day of my life. Andy has had plastic surgery done to rebuild half of his nose when he was first diagnosed with skin cancer. Now I see he is having is head shaved to increase awareness of cancer and also to continue treatments for his skin cancers. People don't have enough awareness about how lethal skin cancer can be. We have far too many sun worshipers. When Andy and I were growing up we didn't have sunscreen and all of the prevention that is now available. I'm looking forward to his new bald look. Just another way to help others and increase awareness. GO ANDY! GO BADGERS!! Love, your sistr

I met Mr. North @ The Springs Golf Resort (now the house on the rock resort) I was a bartender then. Mr. North was the nicest person there. He took the time to say hello and ask how my day was going. I'll never forget this big time PGA guy asked me how my day was. Thank you MR. North. I'll be thinking of you.
