MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A chemistry researcher charged in an online sex sting has resigned from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
University spokeswoman Amy Toburen says 29-year-old research associate Kevin Kreisel resigned his job on Saturday.
Kreisel had been put on paid leave last week after the university learned he was charged in Vernon County with attempting to cause a child to view sexual activity and attempting to expose a child to harmful material. He has pleaded not guilty.
A criminal complaint accuses Kreisel of exposing himself on a Web cam to a police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
Kreisel declined comment last week when reached in a chemistry laboratory. His attorney said his client is presumed innocent of the charges.

UPDATED Wednesday, December 17, 2008 --- 8:00 a.m.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison is launching a review into a researcher charged in an online sex sting.
Twenty-nine-year-old Kevin Kreisel is charged with attempting to cause a child to view sexual activity and attempting to expose a child to harmful material. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which accuse him of exposing himself on a Web cam to a police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.
University spokeswoman Amy Toburen says the school did not find out about the charges filed in Vernon County in western Wisconsin until today.
Kreisel was still working this afternoon at a chemistry laboratory, where he is a research associate. Reached by phone, he said he had no comment.
Online court records show Kreisel was first charged in October. Prosecutors amended the charges last month before he made his initial court appearance.

From the Attorney General's Office:
VIROQUA – The Viroqua Police Department, a new affiliate of the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, recently completed its first Internet Crimes Against Children investigation that has led to the arrest of Kevin A. Kreisel.
Mr. Kreisel has been charged with one count of Attempting to Cause a Child to View Sexual Activity, a class “H” felony punishable by a maximum penalty of 3 years of imprisonment and a $5,000 fine and one count of Attempting to Expose a Child to Harmful Material, Descriptions or Narrations, a class “A” misdemeanor punishable by a maximum penalty of 9 months of imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
“I want to congratulate Chief Mark Rahr and Officer Emilee Nottestad on their first Internet Crimes Against Children Case,” said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. “The Viroqua Police Department is a key partner in the fight to help protect Wisconsin’s kids from internet predators.”
A complete copy of the criminal complaint is available at http://www.doj.state.wi.us/news/files/121508_01.pdf.
Kreisel appeared in Vernon County Circuit Court before Judge Rosborough on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 for a preliminary hearing. He waived his preliminary hearing at that time and is scheduled for a status hearing in February, 2009.
A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence. The prosecution must prove its allegations at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.

To Upset Cop- I never said anything regarding the police in my comment. I'm glad the police are at those type of events such as you metnioned. I don't have anything against police officers as you infer, not sure where you got that from. My whole point was to make PARENTS more responsible. An actively involved parent would be monitoring where thier child goes online or at least questions it. I am not a chronic complainer and appreciate police officers who risk their lives everyday for the public. I find it funny how you picked my comment and left alone the first one posted. Mine is worse then that?? Whatever. Don't twist my little comment into an entire paragraph about cop bashing because I never said anything like that. If PARENTS monitored their kids online, it would save the STATE from having to do things such as this. That was my POINT, don't twist it into something it's not.

Corey, I can't say I'm suprised by your comments. This city and county can never be pleased with something police agencies do. If its not "stepping over the line" its "not doing enough." This community complains when there are too many police doing too much and they complain when the police don't do anything. Its like State Street on halloween. Everyone complains there are too many cops, yet if there weren't enough cops and crimes occurred, you'd all complain there weren't enough police! The state has a job to seek out offenders, actively pursue people who would have committed crimes and stop them before they do. Its called responsibility to citizens. The problem with Madison and Dane County is that a majority of the loud mouth residents who make their opinion known haven't taken the time to educate themselves enough as to what role a police officer actually plays in society. Again, as I always say in these types of posts, GROW UP MADISON!

Let the Judge and Jury decide if he is guilty or not before making any Judgements. There is ALWAYS two sides no matter how disgusting it sounds. He has Pleaded not guilty. He has the right to prove himself right before we judge with out all the evedence.
