CLINTON, Wis. (AP) — Damage is estimated at about $200,000 or more after fire hit a Clinton village building where vehicles and other equipment were stored.
Public Works Director Roger Johnson gave the estimate of damage to the public works garage and equipment.
Fire Chief John Rindfleisch said the blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon in the cab of a pickup truck and had been smoldering by the time a police officer reported it about 6 p.m. Wednesday. It was extinguished in a couple hours.
The pickup was destroyed, and other damaged equipment included a squad car, street sweeper, two utility trucks and sewer cleaning gear.
Crews returned Friday morning because the ceiling was smoking. Workers pulled down the ceiling material and cut a hole in the roof to vent smoke.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
