Monroe Lions Cancel Annual Blues Fest

MONROE, Wis. (AP) -- The annual Berghoff & Blues Festival in Monroe is the latest victim of the economic recession.

The Monroe Lions Club said the event that's been held the past 11 years won't happen this year.

Dick Tschanz is one of the founders of the music festival. He blamed the decision on the rising cost of staging the event and the difficulty of raising enough funds at a time when people have less money to spend on entertainment.

Tschanz said the weather is another factor, because a rainout could threaten to bankrupt the club.

    it dont matter who to blame democrat or republican because it looks like they are batteling it out when behind the scenes most of them are good buddies just like wrestling.they have the same agenda in the end.dont elect either one of them and instead vote independent.thats the only way to undo this system of people working for the special interest.

    Anon @ 0845, take your meds. Rather than give everyone a period of time where there are no taxes paid or owed, your democrat led government is going to save middle class people ~$8 per week in taxes while spending almost a trillion dollars for garbage that won't do any good. We're living through the combination of Carter and Roosevelt in a power-hungry, pompous, under-qualified aristocrat, whose only real goal is the drastic increase in government power at the expense of the freedom our country was so proudly founded for, and you have the audacity to complain about republicans? Where you from, San Francisco?

    I think that the City of Monroe is currently in the process of doing some pretty fancy upgrading in town and this group of losers is well on it's way of bankrupting the very old and good city of Monroe, WI. They think we need a new multi-million dollar court house and guess what? After it was approved, they added another floor and the price almost doubled. The city is also selling off some of it's assets. I guess the fair grounds were sold to private investors. Maybe they sold the old court house to pay their salaries as well. I have seen this squander over and over. Some newbe comes into a community or a group and sucks all the money out to their friends the contractors. Cheney did exactly the same thing!! But then, Monroe is a Republican town!!
