For the first time veterans will be able to attend Edgewood College for free.
It's all because of a new program the school announced Monday.
Before coming to Edgewood College Jeffrey Hill went to MATC and UW-Madison.
He says he chose Edgewood because of its smaller class sizes.
" More concentrated learning. I fell like I am getting...I want to say a better education just because I can concentrate better here."
Hill, who's majoring in math, says he doesn't know any other army veterans on campus.
That may be because the military doesn't cover the entire cost of tuition at the private liberal arts college.
Right now if veterans wanted to attend Edgewood College they would be able to under the Yellow Ribbon Program.
But that would only cover a portion of their tuition.
With the creation of the Eagle Grant they'll be able to have the entire cost covered.
" What the Eagle grant does is basically offsets any additional costs that the federal government isn't able to pay up to the cost of tuition. "
Scott Flanagan, the Vice President for Planning and Enrollment at Edgewood, says tuition at Edgewood for a full time undergraduate student cost $20,000 a year.
The government will only pay as much as it cost to go to the most expensive state school.
In this case the UW.
So the Eagle Grant fills in the gap.
" I was impressed that there's students that are going to get to go to school for free."
Hill didn't qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program.
But because he was injured while serving his education is still paid for.
He realizes how expensive an education can be and he hopes those that do qualify for the program take advantage of it.
Flanagan says the college is still working on the final details of the grant.
He expects to have things finalized this spring.
Edgewood is still encouraging people who want to be a part of the program to apply now because they plan on offering the grant this fall.
