On Sunday, Gary Guitzkow of Poynette died after suffering a massive heart attack.

Tuesday the community honored his memory by re-electing him to the Village Board.

Wednesday, the board and the town were trying to deal with the vacancy left by Guitzkow.

"There is going to be a void here for a little while."

In Poynette, posted outside of the village office, are results from Tuesday's election.

Three spots were open on the village board but only two have been filled.

That's because, just two days earlier, Gary Guitzkow unexpectedly passed away following a heart attack.

"The community lost a great man."

Steve Tomlinson is the Village President and sat just a few feet from Guitzkow during the meetings.

He says the one thing he'll remember about Guitzkow is the smile he always wore.

"He probably slept with a smile on his face."

Andy Ross lives just across the road from Guitzkow.

They also served on the village board together.

He remembers Guitzkow as being a peace maker during those intense board meetings.

"Gary had the ability to sort through a situation and set aside the things that weren't really important at this point and get right to the crux of what was going on. "

At the Frontier, Guitzkow's favorite watering hole in town, he's remembered for two things.

How much he loved his car and how much this former UW employee loved his Badgers.

"He was at every home game of the Badgers. "

Tari Hendrickson the owner of the Frontier says Guitzkow will be seriously missed.

Not just at her bar, on the street or on the board, but everywhere.
