Apartment Fire on Sherman Avenue
Apartment fire in the Town of Madison overnight; no injuries.

The Town of Madison Fire Department and the Maple Bluff Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at the 1900 block of Sherman Ave. on May 1 at 1:25 a.m.

The structure is a 20-unit apartment building .The first arriving units found a fire in the living room of unit #7 of the structure. The fire was extinguished within approximately 15 minutes. The living room of unit #7 received fire damage and the remainder of unit #7 received light smoke and heat damage.

The fire caused an estimated $5,000 damage to the building and contents.

The resident was home in bed at the time of the fire. The resident of unit #7 escaped the fire before fire units arrived.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be careless use of smoking materials.
