Release from Dane County Sheriff's Office:

On Thursday at 7:06 p.m., deputies from the Dane County Sheriff's Office, along with Deforest, Dane and Waunakee fire departments and Waunakee EMS responded to a structure fire at 201 North Street in the Village of Dane.

Upon arrival, flames were visible and heavy black smoke engulfed the building.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a resident of the apartment complex had been cooking and fell asleep when the fire started in the kitchen. All of the residents of the apartment complex were able to escape unharmed.
