I say good job to the employee. No legality to stop them? The shoplifter had no legal right to leave without paying. Touch them and it's assault? Start the lawsuit first, or make it clearly assault. Stop showing criminals there's no negative consequences. Quit sticking up for criminals by saying "it's not worth it". If you'll give up your freedom for safety, you don't deserve freedom or safety, and you'll likely loose both.
I must say I was surprised when I heard that an employee from Wet Seal actually chased after someone. I was in the store this weekend and observed at least 4 employees who were chatting with each other and seemed oblivious to the EIGHT customers waiting in line to pay. Maybe these two woman just got tired of waiting and not being helped!!
I would never risk my life over a scarf and pair of flip flops. She was pretty crazy to go after them, not even knowing what kind of danger she could of been putting herself in.
