The owner of a popular downtown restaurant has confirmed his business is for sale.
Marsh Shapiro owns the "Nitty Gritty" which is located on North Frances Street. It is known as Madison's official birthday place.
He says his decision has nothing to do with the economy. In fact, business is up this year, and last year.
He tells NBC15 News, "I'm in my 70's. I have had a couple milestones. I have been there 40 years, and a couple weeks ago we had our 400,000 birthday celebrated."
Shapiro opened the "Nitty Gritty" in 1968. Shapiro says his assistant General Manager and son-in-law are involved in possibly taking it over. They are co-owners of the westside location, which is not for sale.
