" I'm shaken up I probably lost most of the things I own. I'll bounce back. I don't know what will happen yet. "
James Johnston lives on the 200 block of block of Main Street in Loganville. This morning at about 8AM James lost just about everything including a good friend.
" I'm a little broken up about that. I knew her pretty well for the whole 8-years I lived here. "
According to the Sauk County Coroner's Office Katherine "Kay" Pierce is the woman who died in today's fire. Johnston says she had some physical ailments and he frequently helped her with whatever she needed.
" She was just a sweet old lady, " says Johnson. " She had mobility issues. She had to use a walker and I would be the one to go get her mail from the post office and help her out with a trip to the store once and a while. "
According to witnesses things could have been much worse if it weren't for one of the other neighbors a man they identified as Tim Hamburg.
" Timmy's really lucky he's alive. "
Kenny Thiding is Hamburg's cousin. He says after smelling smoke Tim went door to door waking up his neighbor's and telling them to get out.
" It was too dangerous to go in that front door which Tim wanted to do because he knew she was in there," says Dale Meyer. " But I didn't want him to get injured too so I recommended that he wait for the fire department. "
Meyer spoke to Hamburg just minutes after his heroic attempt to save his neighbors. He says by the time he got to the scene this morning part of the building was engulfed in flames.
According to fire officials this is the second fire related death in Loganville but the first in more in 60-years.
