PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) -- Five Michigan friends who enjoy watersports plan to cross Lake Michigan by stand-up paddleboard to raise money to benefit the Great Lakes.
The Petoskey News-Review reports ( http://bit.ly/1ourQmp ) that Kwin Morris, Andrew Prichard, Jeff Guy, Joe Lorenz and J. Mueller hope to make the 60-mile trip from Algoma, Wisconsin, to Frankfort, Michigan, by Labor Day. They have trained for the trip since December. They are looking for a day with good weather for the trip that they expect to take about 24 hours.
Their aim is to raise $10,000 for Alliance for the Great Lakes. A support boat will follow them with supplies and a crew that includes a medic. They will carry food and water on their boards.
The group's website is www.standupforgreatlakes.com.
