From the Dane County Coroner's Office:

The Dane County Coroner’s office has released the name of the man that died at a Racine County Rehab Hospital on August 29th, after sustaining critical injuries in a July 10th altercation at a Verona Road service station. He is identified as:

MONTEZ VINSON
Age 29
Madison

Vinson’s death remains under investigation by the City of Madison Police and Dane County Coroner’s Office.

UPDATED Monday, August 31, 2009 --- 3:20 p.m.

From the Madison Police Department:

The victim who suffered the head injury (on 7/10) died this past Saturday at a facility in Milwaukee.

It is believed the victim died from injuries sustained during the July 10th fight.

He was a man, in his 20's, and he did reside in Madison at the time of the fight.

A person of interest is in custody on a probation violation, but he has not been charged as the case remains open, and has now been upgraded to a homicide investigation.

UPDATE: Friday, July 10, 2009 --- 11:39 p.m.

On July 10th at around 2:25 AM, officers were dispatched to a large disturbance at the Speedway Gas Station located at 4902 Verona Rd.

One man received serious head injuries from a fight and is still in critical condition at a local hospital.

Two other men were stabbed during the disturbance and were treated and released from the hospital.

Also during this incident a handgun was pointed at a number of individuals.

The handgun has been recovered by the police and a number of individuals have been arrested. Jerome Sanders and Chiemeka Offor were arrested for a probation hold, Courtney Sykes was arrested on a drug charge, Corvalis Stewart was charged as a Felon in Possession of a firearm and 1st Degree Endangering Safety, Dennis Ederington was charged with 1st Degree Endangering Safety, drug charge, and OWI.

These were not random acts and the investigation continues with more charges likely.

Arrested:
1. Jerome Sanders - M/B, 21 yrs old Charged with Prob. Violation
2. Chiemeka Offor- M/B, 22 yrs old Charged with a Probation Violation
3. Courtney Sykes - M/B, 25 yrs old Charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine
4. Corvalis Stewart - M/B, 21 yrs old Charged with Felon in Possession of a firearm and 1st Degree Endangering Safety
5. Dennis Ederington- M/B,22 yrs old Charged with 1st Degree Endangering Safety, OMVWI and a drug charge

Release from Madison Police Department:

MPD was dispatched to a large disturbance starting at 4902 Verona Rd. at 2:24 this morning.

A critically injured person was found there.

A short while later two stabbing victims showed up at local hospitals with non-life threatening stab wounds.

The investigation is continuing.
