During last year's flood, the Rock Springs Public Library almost washed away. Now it's more than a year later and they're still recovering.
The Rock Springs Public Library finished remodeling June 6th of last year. June 7th they held an open house. June 8th they lost almost everything when the water came.
A year later and the small community library is still looking for money so they can get back on their feet.
"It was the only nice place that we have downtown for kids."
Erin Urben took her four kids to the Rock Springs Public Library all the time.
Urben says, " They can be with their friends and check out their books. And the little programs with the games and stuff helped with the little ones."
That was until last year's flood wiped it out.
"So, it was coming way too fast."
Norma Jean Le Moine is the library's director. She and her staff spent the two years before the flood fundraising. They were saving up to remodel.
"We literally put in the last screws that Friday. Then Saturday was our open house. Then Sunday we were flooded."
The library has gotten some help since then. Money from FEMA went to put up new walls and install a new floor.
Le Moine says, " This is a really nice floor." But there is more work to be done.
"Over here was the children's area," says Le Moine. " The computers were all along this wall." She adds, " This corner right here was actually the youth area."
There's a long way to go before putting in computers or a children's area.
Right now they're lucky to have lights. To finish the job Le Moine needs about $20,000
And she's hoping a fundraiser during "Flood Fest" at Fireman's Park will help get them to that goal.
Le Moine says, "I haven't been this excited since my kids were born."
This is the first year for "Flood Fest" which was organized by the Wisconsin Big Cat Rescue.
But Le Moine and Urben hope it's the last fundraiser the library will need.
Urben says, " The library is a wonderful resource and it's something that is needed in a lot of small towns. "
Le Moine hopes to re-open the library September 1st.

The Rock Springs Public Library finished remodeling their library June 6th, 2008. June 7th they held an open house. June 8th the library flooded and all the hard work was washed away.
More than a year later and the library is mostly empty, although some progress has been made. New drywall is up and new floors are in.
But the library still has a long way to go. They used money from FEMA, or the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to cover some of the cost. The rest they're trying to raise on their own. And they're using this weekend's Flood Fest, at Fireman's Park, to do just that. They hope to have things up and running by September 1.
