MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin state lawmaker who slammed into a bicyclist after running a red light has paid an $88 ticket.

Rep. Fred Clark, a Democrat from Baraboo, was issued a ticket by Madison police for running the light on Aug. 18. Madison Municipal Court records show he paid the ticket on Sept. 1.

Clark is scheduled for a court appearance on Sept. 22 if he wishes to contest the charge. But he admitted in the police report that he was not paying attention and he ran the light.

Clark did not immediately respond to a message left at his office on Monday.

Video taken from inside a city bus waiting at the intersection showed Clark's vehicle violently slamming into biker rider Richard Rideout. He was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.

@***, different municipalities have different fines for different offenses. The fine in Madison for this must be $88. Go to the City Council if you want to complain about that.

So just a ticket for running the red light....not an additional ticket for inatentive driving and or reckless endangerment? If it was just a simple red light running where no one got hit that would be ok, but a person got injured and this citation alone does not seem sufficient for what actually happened as a result of his running the red light. And he is a repeat offender, he has several accidents on his record. I know he isnt a bad person, but his driving skills seem a bit poor. Maybe he should volunarily take a drivers safety course. Ive said this before, we all took Drivers Ed when we were 16, Mr Clark is 50 years old, so that was 34 years ago. Most of us do not remember the bulk of the things we learned in highschool. His actions indicate he needs to review the basic rules of driving... like most adults do. Most adults over 30 cannot pass the written road exam. (Down load one and try it). The drivers manual is a free download from the DMV. Everyone should re-read it as an adult.

I'm curious how why is fine was only $88. 2 yrs ago I got a tkt for a rolling stop in the "country" and it was over $200. He not only ran a red light, he injured someone! Interesting how much less his fine was! something's not quite right.
