No More Chanting USA
Baraboo High School has banned a popular student cheer. Students and fans have been chanting U.S.A during games but the chant has nothing to do with patriotism. Students are really using it as an abbreviation that has a foul meaning, causing some cheer controversy.

Inside the gym of Baraboo High School, packed bleachers with students sporting not their school colors but red, white and blue.

USA, students chant but instead the USA stands for You Suck A**.

One parent said, "The USA chant should be for United States of America if it stands for something else it shouldn't be said."

The chant has been going on for years, only now school administrators are taking notice.

“With that information we before the sports season started, we made several announcements and the conference this year is defining good sportsmanship and so anything that deviates from that is not appropriate," says Dave Hedgepath, Athletic Director.

This year WIAA, The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association pushed for sportsmanship, cheering on your on team and had this to say to NBC 15, "We support what Baraboo is doing, athletics is an extension of the classroom and students should be taught respect."

Some say students were chanting U.S.A. as the other team had the ball but others say that is not true nor is the meaning behind the chant.

“We came to the games all year and that chants been in Baraboo for quite a while now it’s never meant that they're just twisting words around," says student, Sam Kujak.

“I think this whole thing got blown out of proportion, I think if the administration would have just left it alone we wouldn't be in this situation we are in today," says Parent, Ron Schultz.

A situation of patriotic pride,

“We have many kids who have fathers and mothers in the military and we are all for the United Sates," Kujak said.

Or mocking teams and USA

“It doesn't make me very proud of my school I can say that I'm kind of embarrassed that this is what Baraboo is known for, the circus and for the USA slogan it's kind of embarrassing," says student, Meg Cychosz.

Students are allowed to say USA only after the national anthem, if they use it any other time they will be punished.
