On Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 6:19 p.m., the Green County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Hwy 11, west of Cadiz Springs Road, in Cadiz Township. Green County Deputies responded to the scene, along with the Monroe Police Department, Browntown Fire Department and the Green County Coroner’s Office. The Wisconsin State Patrol was also contacted to do a post crash inspection of the semi unit.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Mack semi tractor, with a flatbed trailer hauling a piece of excavating equipment, driven by Ronald R. Tourdot, 47, Monroe, WI, was eastbound on State Hwy 11. A Honda Civic, driven by the victim, was westbound on State Hwy 11. The Westbound Honda traveled off the paved roadway onto the gravel shoulder. The Honda then pulled abruptly to the left, back onto the westbound lane and began to spin out of control, continuing across the center line colliding with the side of the semi unit and trailer. There was some damage to the semi unit and severe damage to the Honda.

Mr. Tourdot was not injured. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Arthur G. Hanaman, age 65, of South Beloit, Illinois.

The airbags in the Honda deployed and the driver was using seatbelts.

This is Green County’s second Traffic Crash Fatality in 2009.
