Release from the Village of DeForest Police Department:

On Wednesday, October 7th at approximately 3 p.m., DeForest officers were advised from a concerned citizen that a woman had just picked up her two children from a daycare service and that she appeared intoxicated. Officers were advised that the woman drove away from the daycare with the children in the vehicle. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and the female driver a short time later in the 500 block of DeForest Street. The woman’s children, ages 7 and 2, were located in the vehicle.

The driver, Cara Hussey, age 31 of DeForest, failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OWI. A check of her license found that she had two previous drunk driving convictions. Hussey was taken for a blood test and results are pending, however, preliminary tests indicated a breath alcohol level nearly 3 times the legal limit.

Hussey was booked into the Dane County Jail for 3rd offense OWI. As she has two children under the age of 16 in the vehicle, the offense is considered a felony.

Hussey’s children were turned over to the care of Dane County Social Services.
