It was supposed to be the Mount Horeb Vikings taking on the DeForest Norskies in their regular season finale tomorrow night.
But today Mount Horeb had to forfeit.
The seasonal flu virus or H1N1? School officials in Mt. Horeb aren't sure.
But whatever it is, it caused a large percentage of their varsity football team to miss class and practice.
Bad news for Mt. Horeb and another week of practice with no game for DeForest.
"Team on three. One, two, three, team."
The DeForest Norskies football season has been filled with a lot of disappointment.
Head Coach Mike Minick says, " It is unfortunate. But it is what it is."
Most of it hasn't come on the field. The Norskies just wrapped up the regular season with a 7 and 2 record, they've won their last four games and the team has had the last two weeks to get healthy for their playoff push.
Minick says, " I guess the good would be you have some time to rest and get some guys healed up that might have some dings. "
It's the last couple of games that have been the most upsetting. Last week Baraboo High School had to cancel their game with the Norskies because too many kids were out sick.
Tuesday, Mt. Horeb did the same.
" We were disappointed. You know they feel like the kids are putting in a lot of time, prep time and the coaches and you know you want to play games," says Minick.
The Deforest High School Football team found out they are co-champs of their conference and they haven't even had to play a game in the last two weeks to get there.
But now Seniors are worried that what happened to their opponents may happen to them.
Matt Winckler says, " I mean there is that thought in the back of my mind. But I mean we're taking care of our selves were drinking a lot of water and we have hand sanitizer around the school so were staying pretty healthy."
Even with those precautions some still think it's just matter of time before the flu bug strikes their school.
The Norskies are just hoping it happens once the playoffs are over.
As for the team they were supposed to play this week, Mt. Horeb, they'll fall to 3 and 3.
We tried to talk to them but our request for an interview was denied.

It's a GAME TONY! I suppose back in the stone age when you played you folded your leather helmet and put in your pocket with your teeth too.

It is football, "anonymous". If you want to be sanitary, then put some little white gloves on your kiddies and sign them up for figure skating!

Geez Tony, I forgot how really sanitary it is to have kids throwing up on the football field.
