Information from Sauk County Public Health Dept.:
The Influenza A H1N1 2009 pandemic continues to affect Sauk County. The Sauk County Health Department has received federal funding to provide vaccinations or oversight of vaccinations to the approximately 60,000 residents in Sauk County in an effort to contain H1N1.
It has become apparent that a mass vaccination of this magnitude will exceed the resources of the Health Department. It is also apparent that the Sauk County Health Department may not be able to provide the same level of Public Health services during the H1N1 Vaccination clinics due to staffing shortages.
The Declaration of a Public Health emergency will allow the Sauk County Public Health Department to allocate their resources more effectively, protect staff and volunteers from liability, clarify the County’s priorities, coordinate with other jurisdictions and Community partners, and make additional funding opportunities possible. This declaration shall be effective for sixty (60) days.
Sauk County Public Health is in the process of activating their Public Mass Vaccination Clinic plan. Vaccinations will be made available to children at school with their parent’s consent during the month of November. The remainder of the population will be vaccinated in December following the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) vaccination criteria. These vaccinations will be provided free of charge. Clinics are scheduled on the following dates and times and available to all Sauk County residents.

Because most children do get vaccinated, those who don't are able to "piggyback" off of the benefits. If most chilren did not get vaccines, some of the deadly diseases that are gone today would still be around. Not a judgement, just a fact.

Baraboo Resident, the beautiful part of living in this country is that our personal beliefs do matter. For some reason my mother did not beleive in vaccines for us kids and we all survived just fine. I am now an adult and can choose whether or not I will be vaccinated or not. I won't try to push my beliefs on you if you try not to push yours on me by telling me that I have to get the vaccine. I have to do no such thing if that is the personal choice I have made for myself. I have never and will never had the seasonal flu shot and I have never had the flu. Call me crazy but that is the same reason I am not getting the H1N1 vaccine, I see no reason for it. The minute our government can take away my personal choice and freedom is the day we should start calling ourselves China II because that is exactly what communist goverments do.

I think a lot of the clincs are referring everyone with H1N1 symptoms, espcially the respiratory stuff, to urgent care because they don't want the virus anywhere near their clinic. I tried to go to my clinic and they told me to go to Urgent Care. When we had to go the following day for a follow up appt. they hemmed and hawed and finally "fit us in" but they were adament about our son wearing a mask as he entered the clinic. Which we did at urgent care, which we woud have done anyhow, but it was clear to me that they were not thrilled to have him coming in. I can totally understand containing this as well as we can with masks etc., but if you aren't welcome at your clinic when you're sick, what are they there for? So pleae be kind to the worried parents out there. We are all doing our best and using common sense to keep our kids healthy. We just really are not getting much help at all and I think we're all a little scared.
