Halloween is just around the corner and it seems like everyone is getting into the spirit, including the staff at one local elementary school.

For a group of elementary school students today, what was billed as a lesson on how to stay safe for Halloween turned into something a little more thrilling!

Faculty and staff at Lodi Elementary pulled a Halloween trick on their students that turned into a real treat, a highly choreographed performance of the classic Michael Jackson dance "Thriller." Putting together a secret performance of this magnitude required a lot of coordination, as well as a lot of practice.

"We started it about two weeks ago. We figured out that we put over 24 hours of practice in after school, before school we had practice and then people just spent hours at home trying to figure it out then working on the timing, how we were going to come out and all of the stage stuff came out later."

The performance was intended to be a little bit of fun before a long weekend of trick or treating but staff used the opportunity to teach their students a lesson.

You will always have a group that is negative no matter what the situation. To anomymous, did you look at the studies of those in your study that commit sucide commpared to the U.S.? Light years? Really, look carefully. Also, I am going on a hunch but I am guessing those staff members involved in Thriller at LES have now formed a bond and will probably work better together. Why? They have achieved a goal together. They did something beyond their " hours of service". Thank you Lodi teachers for appreciating life and making a difference in the lives of so many. You are making a difference.

I am a teacher at a public elementary school. Some years I can celebrate the "holidays" and all of my students' birthdays. Other years I have had students that didn't observe holidays or birthdays, or say the Pledge of Allegiance, etc. I taught in a school district in another state that had teachers refrain from decorating their classroons with the colors green and red before Christmas because of religious objections. School districts have had lawsuits filed against them for being "discriminatory and insensitive" in their handling of some of these situations. Personally, this year I am able to celebrate all of the holidays and birthdays in my classroom. Next year, depending on which students I may have in my classroom, I might not be able to. So please keep in mind that the diverse student population and their families' personal and religious beliefs may play a big part in schools not observing Halloween and other holidays.
