The fact that this was an officer Really exemplifies what I said . People, superior officers that wrote negative officer evaluation reports, the FBI investigation etc.Still he was promoted. The Doctors who were treating him had to see that there was the potential for a major problem.Just because a man or woman is an officer in the armed forces doesnot make them above reproach. Andy I don't know where you get your info but I seved in hospitals and clinics throughout the Army. Payday nights and weekend nights we saw an awful lot of muggings and assaults on closed posts, no civilians allowed. Sadly I saw men and women as culprits and victims,enlisted as well as officers.

Hey 'beenthere', what planet are you from? This guy was an officer, and a major at that. What he did was probubly the result of mental issues mixed with religous issues. This is in a completely different category than your typical 'thug' element in the military. I don't think any screening process would have kept this guy out of the military. Also, living on a base is not the same as everywhere else. It's the surrounding towns that attract a bad crowd who in turn love to rip off and scam young men and women who are new to the adult world.

Beenthere, do I not know what the word "draft" means? I thought that a draft meant that men are forced to sign up for the military/war whether they want to or not. Currently, only those men and women who WANT to sign up, do. So how is a draft forcing men and women who DON'T want to be there help any? To me, that could create more animosity, thus crime and violence. Drafts are when the government becomes desperate for people to join and go to war. Don't you think the military becomes a bit lax when they are desperate? I do.

Living on a military base is no different than anywhere else. Yous till have the crime. There are burgluries,armed robberies,sexual assaults and homocides as well as drug trafficing. It is a sad statement I know but as long as the aemy keeps lowering its standards and the people reponsible for doing the screening,recruiters,couselors,Doctors and medics stick to the letter of the regulations the problems may lessen. It is my understanding that individuals with criminal records may now enter the Army. I know of what I speak as my own daughter was murdered by someone who slipped "through the cracks" as was the sister of a good friend. She was killed by one of her husbands disgruntled throops.There are thousands of honorable soldiers and sailors and Marines. They deserve our repect and thanks. I ,my father and my son have all served proudly. No one likes to hear the word "draft", but it may improve the quality of life for others keeping the convicts and mentally ill out of th militar y

This is really sad, even on a military base you are not safe!!! What makes these people have to kill just because they are not happy with their own life. If they want to take their own life go ahead but why take someone elses life. They should not have to die like this.!!!it Makes you really angry when this happens.

Freaked out when I heard about this, my sis lives on base w/ her husband!!! She said she & her family are okay, but they did catch the two people that were involved. She said that they are still looking as a third person may have been involved in all this. My prayers go out to the families that have lost loved ones. Let's be glad that the schools had early release down there today and many of the children were home & safe when this went on.
