From the Rock County Sheriff's Department:
At 10:53 p.m., the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Orfordville Police Department, responded to a one-vehicle accident with possible injuries on Highway 11 at South Footville Road.
Investigation at the scene indicates that a 1997 Chevy Lumina was traveling eastbound on Highway 11 and drifted into the eastbound shoulder impacting with the guardrail. The driver then over corrected, traveling across Highway 11, through the westbound lane of traffic and impacted with the guardrail on the north side of Highway 11. The vehicle came to rest along side of the guardrail facing east.
The driver of the vehicle then exited the vehicle with the assistance of two witnesses to the accident and appeared to have no injuries. As a result of the crash, the accelerator to the vehicle was stuck, eventually causing the motor and exhaust to overheat and catch fire.
Footville Fire was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the vehicle fire. Highway 11 was shut down for approximately 45 minutes with traffic being rerouted.
The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene of the accident once he learned police had been dispatched to the accident scene and his identity is unknown at this time. Further investigation continues.
