Gun-Deer Hunting Injuries

UPDATED: Saturday, November 21, 2009 -- 8:45 p.m.
In Green County, around 3:30 Saturday afternoon, authorities responded to a report of a man hurt along County Highway X in the Attica area.
The DNR warden for Green County says a man in his late 30s accidentally shot himself in the upper leg with his own shotgun. He was taken by Med Flight to UW Hospital.
His condition is unknown. The incident is still under investigation.

Information from the Grant County Sheriff's Office:
Daniel Z. Kassees, 36, of Dousman, and Rex M. Ballinger, 36, or Wauwatosa, were hunting deer on private property in Glan Haven Township in Grant County on 11-21-09 at approximately 8:15 a.m.
Kassees was attempting to unload his rifle while standing next to his pickup truck. The rifle discharged through the rear passenger compartment, exiting the right side of the vehicle striking Ballinger in the back of both thighs.
Ballinger was transported by private vehicle to Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster where he was treated for his injuries.

Jessie, I think Name was refering to a felon he may know that he knows is hunting. I could probably name a few myself. As could a lot of other people. Just because the law says they cannot hunt, doesn't mean that they wont hunt. You never know who is out in the woods with you ;).

My father and brother hunted for years and yes, they were very careful in handling their guns because they also took the proper classes. We always lived in the country but I certainly know we were not rednecks. As for jones, why do you think hunters have something wrong with them? I could never shoot a deer but I would rather have that happen and the meat eaten instead of an overpopulation of the deer herd and having they die of either starvation or disease. hunters to a great service to the state because they help maintain the populations of wild game and are very involved in conservation efforts to protect that game in the future.
