Information from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office:

On Wednesday, 11-25-09, approximately 12:43 a.m., neighborhood residents reported the sound of a car crash and car lights illuminating the private residence at 5505 Spring Valley Road in the Town of Lyons.

Deputies and Lyons fire/rescue units were immediately summoned to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies found a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse had struck the tree in the front yard of this residence. Both the driver and passenger were deceased.

The driver is identifed as Steven T. Schedler, 23, of East Troy, WI. The passenger is identified as Jennifer A. Weber, 29, of Lyons Township. Autopsies are scheduled to determine the exact cause of death on both parties.

Initial investigation at the scene revealed the following: Mt. Schedler was westbound on Spring Valley Road, about 1/10 of a mile west of Knob Road. He failed to properly negotiate a hill and slight curve. He lost control, entering the eastbound lane before crossing it and leaving the road entirely.

His Mitsubishi entered the shoulder and struck a tree with the rear of the vehicle. Neither he nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts.

Possible contributing factors include driving too fast for conditions and excessive speed in the 35 mph zone. This case is open and remains under investigation.
