Release from the Janesville Police Department:

On December 6th, 2009 at approximately 6:12 pm, officers of the Janesville Police Department responded to the area of Center Av. and Kellogg Av. for a two vehicle traffic crash with injuries. A pick-up truck driven by Billy L. Passon Jr. 25 years of age of Beloit was southbound on US 51/Center Av. when it collided with a car driven by a 43 year old male from Janesville. Upon initial investigation, the car was exiting the parking lot of Best Events at 2030 Center Av. and attempting a left turn to go north on Center Av. when struck by Passon’s southbound truck.

The 43 year old male sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance from the scene to Mercy Hospital. The 43 year old succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital. The name is of the deceased is being withheld until notification of family. Passon, the driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined and is still under investigation. Center Av. at Kellogg Av. remained closed for several hours while officers investigated the crash.
