Tuesday night it wasn't too cold for some residents wanting a voice in a controversial building issue in Iowa County.
A group of protesters showed up in Dodgeville before Tuesday night's county board meeting.
They're unhappy with the board's vote to allow the construction of a new health and human service building with an estimated cost of around $6.4 million.
Some of the 100 people spilled into the hallway at the meeting and every one who spoke while NBC15 cameras were there was against the current plan with many asking for a referendum to decide instead.
"I'm not sure that it is the right time and that's the million dollar question," said Mark Masters, Iowa County Board Chairman. "Financing costs and building costs seem to be appropriately-priced right now."
He added that, under the current plan, the effects of taxes to fund this project wouldn't begin until 2011.
Tuesday night those voting weren't swayed as all the resolutions still passed by the same 11-10 vote.
As of right now, no bond date has been set.
The proposed site for the building is at the old Dodgeville middle school.

Hmm....My property taxes already have gone up 400 dollars this year. My property is valued at 189,000 and I pay 150% what comparable homes are taxed at in nearby areas. There must be an underlying reason why these people are so ready to spend other peoples money so quickly. Dodgeville is losing population, has to repay Land's End over 2 million in a tax dispute, and the county has very little else going for it economically. I am getting out as soon as I can. The county board is completely out of touch, as a recent petition drive collected 1500 signatures in the span of about a week, calling for a referendum on the issue. I say we should put another petition out there to recall all of the board members and have a special election. Maybe that would get their attention. All in all, this is a wake up call for transparency in government. The county board meetings are very poorly advertised, and according to local newspaper reports alot of business is conducted behind closed doors.
