A spokesperson for Alliant Energy says the power outages are nearly all taken care of.

Here are the most recent numbers for those without power:

Dane County: 20
Green County: 20
Rock County: 110
Walworth County: 85

Crews hope to have all outages repaired by 6 o'clock.

All day the weather has been wreaking havoc on roads and leaving thousands without power.

As the ice piled up so did the problems.

All day here in Madison we've been covered by an icy crust.

The melt started around 10 o'clock this morning but it wasn't quick enough.

Power lines and branches are still caked with ice and we didn't even get the worst of it.

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley says, "Our problems here in Monroe started last evening."

They've been struggling with power outages for the last 24 hours.

Across the city branches are snapping under the weight of snow and ice and taking power lines down with them.

Last night about five or six thousand people lost power there and this morning another five thousand went dark.

Kelley says, "You hate to wish for rain in the winter time but actually the rain might help to take some of the ice off the power lines and trees."

The rain has the potential to create a whole new set of problems but until this ice is gone the roads and the power lines could continue to suffer.

Alliant Energy says several thousand people across South Central Wisconsin are without power.

Larger transmission lines are falling under the weight of ice that's been building on the lines since late last night.

A spokesperson for Alliant says as of 8:30 this morning 1300 customers are without power in Dane County. The problems are being reported in the Verona, Stoughton and Oregon areas.

2100 are without power in Rock County which is down from almost 6000 who were powerless at 5 am.

Conditions in Walworth County are quickly improving and there are only 165 people still without power there. They were hit hard earlier this morning with 1225 powerless.

Monroe has been battling problems all night. Power line problems caused most of the city to be without power last night and shortly after crews fixed the first problems, more arrived.

Since 5 am 4900 people in and around Monroe have been without power. Alliant's spokesperson says the problems there are being caused by a downed transmission line that is taking crews a while to fix.

They say the good news is things should be getting better across the area. With the ice turning to rain and temperatures rising they're predicting any ice that is on the lines now will quickly melt.
