Fire Destroys Barn and Outbuildings

Press Release from the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

At 3:28 am, Dane County Deputies, Marshall Fire, Columbus Fire, Sun Prairie Fire, and Waterloo Fire, were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the Town of York. The initial call was made by an individual passing through the area. The fire was located on the property at 7521 Marshall Road.

The first deputy on scene reported a large barn was fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to two other smaller outbuildings. The barn contained a large quantity of hay and 60 head of cattle, all of which were safely evacuated by the owner. The three buildings were a complete loss, however damage estimates are still being determined and are unavailable at this time.

An exact cause of the fire remains to be determined, but initial indicators point toward wires that were knocked down due to ice, arced, and ignited the barn. This fire remains under investigation.
