Glenn Fenster starts his day similarly to everyone else. He drinks his coffee, checks his e-mails, brushes his teeth, packs his things for the day and goes to work. But that is where the similarities end, as Fenster gets on his bike to continue his ride across North America.
"I am riding to show my son that no matter the disability the mind or body, anything can be accomplished," said Fenster.
At two years old Nyle Fenster was diagnosed with a severe case of Epilepsy. Soon after, Fenster realized that the disease is only a disability if it is viewed as one. A lesson he learned from his son four years ago on the tennis court.
"He was getting ready to run down a shot and a seizure hit." Fenster said in sorrow. "He hit the ground so hard. By the time I got to him his seizure was finished. I offered him my hand up to help him up. And he slapped my hand away. I said Nyle don't you want help up? He said no. I said Nyle, 'How do you keep getting up?' And he looked at me and said dad, 'I;ve never seen you stay down.'
After that, Fenster sold his car, bought a bicycle and planned to ride across the continent to get his son's message out, and raise awareness. Fenster started his trip in Anchorage Alaska on April 30 and on July 4th he will finish his trip in Miami Florida after riding 6200 miles.
"I'm a man on a mission with a message." he stated.
"And that message is for everyperson suffering from epilepsy to persue your dreams conquer your goals, never give up. Each day offers the opportunity to achieve the impossible."
