The doors at the Madison Children's Museum closed; will re-open in several months at new location.

100 State Street has been home to the Madison Children's Museum for years. Sunday, the museum's member families and the public got a chance to say good bye.

Some were sad. Sasha Collins says, " I think she's a little bit sad. But I think she's taking it in stride."

Others can't wait to see what the future holds. Manju Goel says, " I think we're excited about the differences and the newness and the variety."

In seven months, the MCM will reopen at its location just a few blocks away on North Hamilton Street.

" There's a lot of nostalgia... I mean this is a place that so many kids and families absolutely love including my own children."

Jenni Collins, the MCM's Director of Development and External Relations, says the doors shut at 5 p.m. today. And shortly after that the move will begin.

The construction work taking place at the old Children's Museum is pretty much just for fun and games.

But over at the new Children's Museum there is still a lot of work to be done.

" We have about 30-days to get out of here but we still have a lot of work to do at our new building in terms of installing and building the exhibits over there. "

The building isn't scheduled to open until August. But not all of the work that still needs to be finished is inside the building.

Collins says, "We have just under a million dollars we still need to raise to open that new building in August and we're really counting on lots of community support."

So for the next few months there won't be any little smiling faces at the MCM, but with help, come August that will all change.

It may not be open but the Madison Children's Museum will still be doing community outreach. They're calling it their "Road Show" and they plan on bringing exhibits and activities to the Madison community.
