Release from Rock County Sheriff's Department:
On February 20, 2010 at 9:51PM, deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office along with Janesville Fire and Paramedics responded to a car versus tree crash on W. Happy Hollow road approximately two-tenths of a mile east of S. River Road. This traffic crash occurred in the Town of Rock, about 2.1 miles south from the City of Janesville. Units began to arrive on scene at 9:53PM and remained at the incident location until 10:55PM.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Joseph B. Mooney, age 47, Janesville, WI, was westbound on W. Happy Hollow road when he lost control of the car while attempting to navigate a left curve. The vehicle traveled onto the north shoulder of the road, entered the north ditch, and subsequently struck a tree approximately 20 feet off the road. Estimated distance traveled by the vehicle upon leaving the road until striking the tree is 180.9 feet.
Mooney sustained incapacitating injuries to his mid and lower torso. Mooney’s passenger, Rance J. Gehri, age 51, also from Janesville, WI, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Rance sustained incapacitating injuries as well to his mid and lower torso. Mooney and Rance were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital and admitted for their non-life threatening injuries. Both individuals were not wearing seatbelts.
Joseph B. Mooney was arrested for Causing Great Bodily Harm by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, Operating M/V while Intoxicated-5th offense, Driving to Fast for Conditions, Operating after Revocation-Causing Injury, and Failure to Wear Seatbelt.
Rance J. Gehri was issued a citation for Failure to Wear Seatbelt.

anon123-that's nothing compared to killing someone. you should be thrown in jail after the first time -maybe then there wouldn't be a second.
in ref to Anon123, how stupid can you be? first and formost you are simply looking for an excuse for your alcoholism. you can factor in any form of statistic to fit your arguement. the simple fact is driving drunk not only is stupid but it very often takes someone elses innocent life oh yeah AND ITS ILLEGAL!! talking on your phone is not. now I have assesed my driving skills prior to this comment and i have held a regular license as well as every other endorsment on my license for the last 22 years and keep in mind i also have had a cell phone for almost as long i have never had a single accident nor have i had a dui. one chance is all you should get then you need to be put away for a while and put through some very seriouse theropy for your drinking problem. stop crying about the punishment for something you choose to do!!!!
DE: If you think losing your license and paying thousands in fines and fees, losing your insurance, having to attend mandatory alcohol counseling and a mandatory drunk drivers class for 6 weeks, and possibly doing jail time for a 5th offense is a slap on the wrist, then I invite you to attempt to handle the same situations and see how it affects your life. You are so ready to demonize drunk drivers, but the studies that have been done in the 15-20 years since cell phones have been in use show that cell phone use while driving is causing more accidents and deaths then drunk drivers. But I bet you are one of those people who drives with a phone glued to your ear and one hand on the wheel. How about you access your own driving practices before judging others.
