Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

This morning, around 8:25 a.m., a fourth grade student reported being solicited by two strange men while walking to school on Cypress Way.

They were inside a red pick-up truck, and stopped to speak with the girl. The passenger offered to give her a ride to McDonald’s, and at one point stepped out of the truck and said, “Get in … or else!”

The girl says the passenger spoke in English, while the driver spoke in Spanish.

The student walked away and immediately reported the incident to school staff.

The Madison Metropolitan School District is sending information on this incident home to area families.

Suspect(s):
Driver: Male, Hispanic, spiky hair, cut with scab on side of nose, wearing a dark coat.

Passenger: Male, Hispanic, short black hair, clean-shaven, wearing a red coat with blue sleeves, and dark jeans.

District officials are recommending moms, dads, and other adults discuss the importance of safe behaviors with children:

a) Never respond to strangers when you are alone
b) Stay with friends
c) Report suspicious incidents to a trusting adult
d) Never accept gifts/food/candy
e) Never accept rides
f) Be alert to similar incidents, especially in the identified area.
g) Never go with anyone without parent permission and always tells someone where you are going.
