MAUSTON, Wis. (AP) — A former middle-school principal in Juneau County has been charged with 11 counts of having child pornography.

The Baraboo News Republic says 58-year-old Thomas Reisenauer was charged Thursday. The School District of Mauston had placed him on administrative leave when the investigation began in March. The school board accepted his resignation the following month.

Reisenauer was the principal at Olson Middle School. Investigators say the offending pictures were apparently downloaded from the Internet and weren't photos of children at the school.

Prosecutors say an Internet filter tipped off school officials, who confronted Reisenauer. He alleged acknowledged having a long-standing addiction to pornography.

Online court records did not list a defense attorney Saturday.

On Monday evening, April 19, 2010, following a closed session, the Mauston Board of Education voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Olson Middle School Principal Tom Reisenauer, and to approve a Resignation Agreement and Waiver/Release of Claims. Six board members were present for the meeting; board member Paul Huebner was absent

Mr. Reisenauer has been on unpaid leave of absence since March 23, 2010, pending an investigation related to an alleged violation of the school district’s internet use policy. Prior to the unpaid leave, Mr. Reisenauer was placed on paid, administrated leave from March 4th through March 22nd.

“I am satisfied that the Board of Education made a thoughtful and informed decision in this matter,” said Smolek. “They considered many factors, and after hearing detailed legal advice, t hey made a decision based on what was best for the school district, the taxpayers, and most of all, for the students.”

Tom Reisenauer was employed as middle school principal from 2001 until the time of his resignation, which is effective as of April 12, 2010.

Tom Reisenauer, Olson Middle School Principal, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged misconduct.

Although this is an ongoing investigation, there is no evidence at this time that connects the alleged misconduct with students.

We are conducting a thorough review and no further information is available at this time.

During the investigation, middle school principal duties will be handled by Melissa Murray, the high school assistant principal

Mr. Reisenauer has been employed as an administrator in the School District of Mauston since July 1, 2001.
