Police raid a quiet neighborhood and arrest four people for dealing heroin.

"I was surprised because I didn't even know it happened," said Carl Tollefson.

The people that live in the Bayview-Braxton neighborhood off South Park Street say it's peaceful and quiet. And on Thursday night Madison police made sure it stays that way.

Three weeks ago, the director of the complex approached police fearing heroin had infiltrated her apartments.

Police used a wired undercover officer to find the drug dealer and purchase the heroin. And while that officer acted by himself he wasn't alone.

Said Sgt. Jim Dexheimer, "He was in constant radio communication with us and had an open line with us. And we had other undercover vehicles and undercover officers supporting him in close proximity to protect his safety."

Five arrests were made, four for delivery of heroin. All the suspects are older adults and have various criminal histories.

"It was having a significant impact on the neighborhood up there," added Dexheimer.

Many of the residents in the 30-year-old community are special needs or elderly, which has a greater impact because they are more vulnerable and more afraid to speak up.

"I'm not surprised they caught someone doing it right away," stated Tollefson. "Everyone knows everybody here. Especially within this community. It's pretty safe."

"We think we got the main person who was responsible for the main bulk of the problems in the neighborhood," concluded Dexheimer.

"Surprised. Very Surprised. But glad it was alleviated," said Tollefson.

Sergeant Dexheimer said more charges are pending. He also believes more arrested will be made at a later date.

if people are doing illegal things, I agree, they shouldn't qualify for the low rent, daycare. Drug tests are a great idea but because they could be selling it doesn't mean they are using. I wonder if a person has a criminal record, they should not qualify for any type of assistance for maybe up to xx years and to hold a clean record. If people cannot make it on parttime, they need to get a full time job. It is up to the parent to provide for the children but if they do things illegally, they shouldn't qualify for the assistance. Teach kids to do good and get rewarded or if they are bad, they are disciplined.

I don't know why I read these comment sections, all they do is shatter my faith in fellow citizens and their humanity, kindness, and ability to write the language they speak every day. That being said, I am compelled to respond to "bad big brother" and his "open minded" ideology: You speak of morality, but what is the morality of watching others suffer and doing nothing? You say they don't work hard enough to deserve anything? What of the elderly? Should they be left to die? How about the mentally and/or physically disabled? Did Jesus Christ ignore the sick and ailing? Or did he go out of his way to heal them? I'm not religious, but I think JC may have been on to something there. What should be done for the child/children of the single mom who works a minimum wage job/s, should those innocent children starve and suffer for mistakes their parents made? Why not sharing, and community that could make this country great again, instead of greed and selfishness that divides us!

anon @ 12:42, I'm intrigued by your post, and I wonder if I could open your mind to a different idea? First, you are absolutely right - it's not fair that you work full time and have to know that part of what you earn is taken from you, to be given to (insert social program here). So let me ask you to ponder something: No one should be entitled to anything they didn't earn, or weren't given voluntarily. Would you think about that the next time you look at your paycheck at the taxes taken out, or when you pay your next property tax bill? I feel it's morally wrong to make someone else's right to an entitlement more important than your right to keep what you earn.
