Madison Police are still investigating the death of a 4-and-a-half month old baby girl from late last week.
According to a search warrant filed in Dane County Court, Madison Police have gathered DNA samples from the girl's mother in connection to a possible charge of physical abuse of a child.
Last Friday morning, the girl's mother found the baby did not have a pulse and was not breathing.
An autopsy revealed the child had a number of injuries, including multiple rib fractures, bruises and older fractures in each of the baby's forearms.
A doctor says the injuries ranged from five hours old to 10 days old.
According to the search warrant, the mother told police she was using methadone to help her recover from an addiction to oxycontin.
Madison Police have sealed a different search warrant in which police recovered bloody rags that indicate the child's lip was torn, perhaps when someone tried to force a baby bottle into her mouth.
Madison Police would only say the death is still under investigation and there is no official cause of death.

Our hearts go out. Prayers are all you have. No one child should go before the parent. The only comfort is to know that baby girl is with God now. The family has been thru enough and God is the only 1 whom has the right to judge anyone. Again very sorry for the loss and mt thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Again,Sorrowful, you know nothing. If you know so much, why don't you post your real name.If you know so much about his family, you would know who I am,and bring your opinions to me directly,as opposed to posting anonymously on a website. My cousin has legal custody of his 2nd son,and has had his youngest son living with him most of the time,as their mother is dying. As for his oldest son,my cousin was only 18 when he had him.Neither my cousin or the son's mother were able to responsibly provide for "M" so my cousin made a decision to let his mother raise "M".Weren't you self righteous commenters just saying that if they can't handle a baby, they should give it to someone who can?Now you turn around and try to villify my cousin for making the exact decision you advocate for 18 years ago.Hypocrisy at it's finest.Like I said, since you have so much time and energy on your hands, how about you advocate for children in bad living situations, instead of yapping about things you know nothing of.
How about the ignorant people not say nothing at all!!! It sucks that this baby girl never had a chance in life but what can anyone do now! We should be praying for this family.Only god can judge you! We don't know the truth. God is in control of this situation. People should be minding there own business. Time will prevail!
