UPDATED Thursday, April 8, 2010 --- 3:50 p.m.

On Wednesday, Greyhound announced it would move its permanent location in Madison (to TravelCenters of America on Interstate 90 and Interstate 94 at exit 13). However, that has changed again.

Now, Greyhound confirms it will continue to pick-up passengers at Madison Metro's North Transfer Point.

Press Release:
Effective April 9, buses will depart and arrive on Huxley Street, across from Madison Metro’s North Transfer Point (1213 Huxley Street). From this location, Greyhound will continue to run 10 daily schedules. Tickets for travel can be purchased online. Greyhound is working closely with city officials to find a permanent location in Madison.

“We appreciate the comments from the citizens in Madison and believe this more centralized location will be beneficial to our customers as we work to locate a more permanent location,” said Eric Thiry, area manager. “We look forward to continuing to provide service to the citizens of Madison.”

Well I def. have a few comments on this one as a cab driver in this city for over a decade I think its great a cab ride to the bus will cost you more than the bus home ROFL. As far as crime in downtown Madison that is and always will be a police issue maybe if we funded our police department properly problems would slowly go away and although some don't think this but I have been a Madisonian for 30 years and lived and grew up on state street but removing the homeless shelters and the churches that provide services for those less fortunate away from the largest concentration of bars liquor stores,24 hour hangouts and panhandling areas of our city would be a good idea the churches think they are helping but giving a kid with a candy addiction a house next to a candy store is a dis-service to them. Greyhound is cutting its own throat and what we need are solutions not business pulling out of downtown.

JB - what information are you basing your "crime has decreased downtown" statement on? For the people who rely (relied) on Greyhound to go home and see family, this is just a slap in the face. Fortunately, Van Galder & Badger still offer some service leaving from downtown. Greyhound is going to start having a lot of empty buses from Madison and they'll have to re-think where they pick up/drop off travelers. Even if they're positioning themselves to connect to any future train service, it still ends up being more inconvenient for 70-80% of the city.
