Dane County DA Wins Seat On Wis. Dist. 4 Appeals Court

Posted Tuesday, April 6, 2010 --- 10:10 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard defeated Richland County Circuit Judge Edward Leineweber for a seat on the District 4 Court of Appeals in Wisconsin.

With 66 percent of precincts reporting in Tuesday's election, Blanchard led Leineweber 63 percent to 37 percent.

Blanchard, 51, takes over a seat being vacated by Judge Charles Dykman, who is retiring after serving on the appeals court since 1978. Blanchard has been Dane County district attorney since 2001.

The 24-county district includes the southern and central Wisconsin counties of Adams, Clark, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Juneau, La Crosse, Lafayette, Marquette, Monroe, Portage, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Vernon, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood.

Leineweber, 61, has been Richland County judge since 1997.

Blanchard begins his six-year term on Aug. 1 on the four-member court. The salary is $136,316.

Sorry, but that's not going to happen. He has groomed his underlings well and they will do the same as he has. For the most part the assistants are pretty good at their jobs, but unfortunately the "leadership" starting with Blanchard and working down to his Deputy D.A.'s (I believe there are 3 of them currently) are lacking in many things, one of which is the ability to lead and stand up for what is right. No leadership to stand up to the county board, no leadership to stand up to criminals, no leadership to stand up to the county exec. Mr. Blanchard, I wish you good luck, but I'm glad you're leaving Dane County and I highly doubt dou'll do any better for the state in the court of appeals.

Now that Blanchard will be leaving mayby the District Attorneys office will actually get turned around and charge criminals instead of declining prosecution all the time
