The best burger chain in America just may be in your backyard. A Wisconsin based company that just received a big honor.

Restaurants and Institutions magazine named Culver's restaurants the best burger chain in America. Culver's got it's start in Sauk City and its founders are excited about the honor.

Walk into a Culver's restaurant and ask around. People are very willing to tell you why they chose the chain for their meal. "It's a good restaurant," said Sauk City resident, Sherry Pieper.

Restaurants and Institutions magazine ranked Culver's the best burger chain in the country. It's an honor the company's co-founder, Lea Culver, attributes to good employees and customers. "This honor is especially heartwarming for us because we were selected by our guests," smiled Culver.

Guests saw the little family-run business in Sauk City turn into a big business. "It wasn't easy getting started and we had a lot of loyal guests and friends in the community. We're just really thankful for them and proud to be part of their lives," said Culver.

Now, there's more than 360 restaurants in 17 states. Although the business grew, its family-run values are what have made it so successful with its customers. Roger Clason lives in Sauk City and chose the restaurant for lunch Wednesday. He says, "the quality of the food and the atmosphere, the cleanliness and even the friendliness," are what brought him to Culver's.

"The custard and their food is wonderful," said Pieper.

For that reason, the chain's founders are thankful for a little recognition. "Honestly it feels great. We're very proud of it and again, one of the things we really want to do with this award is take the opportunity to thank our guests because our guests believed in us right from the very start when we had our first restaurant here in Sauk City," Culver said.

Lea and Craig Culver will be heading to California next week to accept the award in person. The company is also working on putting together a celebration event at the Sauk City Culver's. It will be held sometime in October.
