UPDATED Thursday, June 10, 2010 --- 10:46 p.m.

Back in April, we told you about a group of Mt. Horeb students who created a plan for a "happy place" where people can go to find peace--and a place to smile.

Now, the Happy Place Garden is complete--it's located on the Intermediate Center school grounds.

Brenda Albrecht, whose son helped with the planning says it's an amazing thing that has happened there.

"My husband passed away suddenly in September and this community has really rallied together to make such a wonderful place like this," Albrecht said.

The community has dealt with a lot in the past few months, including the death of its fire chief, a high school student who died from meningitis and several families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

A community that has experienced so much sadness is coming together to create happy and positive memories.

Recently, Mount Horeb has seen its fire chief pass away, a high school student die of meningitis, three parents pass away unexpectedly, and at least two families dealing with cancer.

So, elementary school students created a plan for a "Happy Place" Garden where people can find peace, and hopefully, a place to smile.

Children planted trees for the Happy Place, which will be located on the corner of East Franklin and Hanneman.

What a great community thing to do. This is what being a part of a community really means. Blessing to Mt Horeb. I hope others can follow in their foot steps.

I think this is one of the most wonderful stories I have heard or read in a long time. There is a certain peace in just reading about it knowing there are children and people who are caring about the community and others in such a POSITIVE way, rather than in the negative or feeling sorry for me mode. This activity inspires all of us to do positive and sharing things.
