UW Student Chases Down Man who Crashed Into His House Save Email Print

A | A | A

A UW student was awoken Wednesday night to the sound of a vehicle crashing into his house.

The driver of the vehicle tried to run, but the student chased and held the suspect down until police arrived.

Madison Police say the incident started near West Badger Rd. when officers were involved in the pursuit of a white Chevrolet.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Michael Jones of Madison, led police to the Beltline where speeds reached 100 mph.

Police called off the pursuit, but continued in the direction of the speeding car and found that it had collided with the porch of a home on Randall Avenue.

Police say cinder blocks from the porch flew off and hit a truck that was parked nearby.

The truck belongs to a UW student who lives in the home that was hit.

The crash woke the student up and he spotted the driver of the car leaving the scene on foot. The student chased and held the suspect down until police arrived.

The student is in the Naval ROTC. A Madison Police Sgt. is recommending the student receive a citizen commendation for his help in nabbing the suspect.

A desk and chair that had been outside the home was struck and demolished in the crash. The student says he and his roommates were unsure as to keep those items, but the crash resolved that issues.

Tune into NBC-15 news at 10:00 where we will be speaking with the UW student.

Dear, D & G If he (the criminal) was raping your sister, should he (UW student) have called the police or stopped it..get a grip, he did what he thought was right.

Ok I don't understand...someone gets taken to jail for stabbing someone that was having sex with an 8 yr old girl and this guy receives and award for chasing a criminal. Bascially helping the police do their job. Can someone explain to me what is wrong with Madison WI. I really regret moving here. Talk about values...wow

D: you are probably the only person who thinks that this was a negative thing for someone to do. I am sorry for you. As far as the UW student goes-I wish there were more people like yourself around. This is one news story that makes me smile, cheer, and feel good about the world. Great job!

Hey D, whats so sad about this? Sounds to me as though you would be the type to call the police, sit on your butt and complain when they get there and could not get the criminal because he ran off. Although I dont think it is a good message to pass on to people. They should call the police.
