All the rain we got is taking its toll on area roadways. One Dane county road will be out of commission for quite some time. Highway Y just north of Mazomanie couldn't hold up with all the rain we've been getting.

Emily Mead, her brother, and her dad were checking out the damage. "We came across the bridge and we were wondering what was happening," explained the little girl.

Part of highway Y goes over a little stream. With all the rain, a big chunk of it sunk into the ground. "I thought it was kind of cool, then it was kind of scary because I didn't want us to like fall in or anything," said Mead.

Through the gaping hole left behind you can see about a 10 feet drop into the rushing water below. "It is a rather large structure and it washed out," said Dane county highway engineer, Greggar Petersen.

Now crews are working to fill the holes by dumping truckloads of sand and gravel. However, it looks like it isn't going to be a quick fix. "We will probably end up replacing this structure. It's an older structure and because of the problems its having now the only good way to fix it is to replace it," explained Petersen.

Highway crews have closed a stretch of highway Y and say it could take a month or two to fix. To be more specific, it's county highway Y between Mazomanie and highway 12. It is close to a boat landing located in that area.

I just talked to a friend and she said that she thinks this happened closer to town. You should have no problem getting to the boat landing from 78. Hope this helps!

My first guess would be no. I'm not sure where on Hwy Y the road caved in, but your best bet would be to go Hwy 12. Although, it only looked like a small hole, so I'm sure you could still take Hwy 78 to Hudson or Racek Roads in Mazo and drive around the problem area.

Anyone know if the boat landing is accessible from HWY 78?
