AG candidate Ozanne finds spending records

STATEMENT – Corkey Custer, Treasurer - Citizens for Ozanne

Due to a family medical situation, I have been out of state for a large portion of the last several months. As a result, I was not able to attend to my duties as treasurer as diligently as I would have liked. Therefore, the preparation of the July 21, 2014, finance report was conducted by the campaign staff. Unfortunately, there was one check register that the campaign did not have in its possession as it was completing the report, and by the time they realized it, it was too late to obtain the records in time to include them in the report. The decision was made to file the report without the information with the intention of filing an amended report with the full information included. The Government Accountability Board has said today that this is not an unusual practice.

We regret that we were unable to include all of the information in our initial filing. The documents have now been obtained, and attached to this statement is a spreadsheet that provides the details for every check written by the campaign during the relevant filing period. This includes the items for which the full details were not provided initially. Again, we regret any confusion that this delay has caused.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Attorney general hopeful Ismael Ozanne initially failed to account for spending $33,000 in campaign cash before finding missing records that fill in the gaps.

Ozanne is one of three candidates vying for the Democratic nomination in an Aug. 12 primary.

His campaign turned over finance records for the first half of 2014 to state election officials Monday. The records didn't include explanations as required by state law for spending $33,000 of the $97,000 the campaign spent over those six months.

Late Thursday afternoon Ozanne's campaign treasurer issued a statement to The Associated Press saying she has been out of the state for the last several months due to a family medical situation and left the report filing to other staffers. She included a spreadsheet documenting the reasons for the spending.
