NBC15 News Reporter Zac Schultz is at Jefferson High School which was evacuated earlier this afternoon. He confirmed two people, including a construction worker, were transported by EMS due to a hazmat situation. A third person was treated on scene.

As we reported earlier this week, a student and teacher were injured during a bizarre incident Monday at the school pool. While workers were at the pool today, hydrochloric acid and chlorine were mixed, causing the hazmat situation. The Jefferson County Hazmat Team remains at the scene right now. Students were allowed to go back inside the school to get their personal belongings; they have since been released for the day.

According to an article on the dailyunion.com, two students reportedly were banging rubber diving bricks against an underwater viewing window right before it shattered Monday. Jefferson Police Chief Gary Bleecker said that once reports of the investigation are completed, information about the incident involving the 15- and 16-year-old boys will be referred to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office for review with no recommendation.

From NBC15's News Partner WITI Fox 6 in Milwaukee:

A student and gym teacher swimming in the Jefferson High School pool were sucked through a maintenance window in the pool during class on Monday. This, after the window ruptured.

The superintendent of Jefferson School District tells FOX6 News, the window that ruptured allows people to see what's happening under water during swim and dive meets.

The student and gym teacher, Greg Fetherston were both sucked through the hole with the broken glass and tumbled into a maintenance room about six to eight feet below.

Fetherston was able to get both the student and himself out of the room and up to safety.

Fetherston suffered some cuts and was treated and released at a nearby hospital. The student was flown to Madison for care.
