Allstate Plans To Cut 214 Jobs In Cross Plains

An Allstate call center in Cross Plains will close at the end of the year, and all of the current employees will lose their jobs.

The office answers calls from customers in auto accidents. All 214 employees were told in a meeting or over the phone today that the center will close on December 31.

An Allstate representative tells NBC 15 that there are about 100 similar job openings at other Allstate offices throughout the country. The Cross Plains staff are eligible to apply for those positions, but the nearest office is in Indianapolis and others are even further in places like Arizona and Alabama.

Current call center workers tell NBC 15 that employment counselors will be available this week to answer questions at the center.

Allstate opened the Cross Plains office in 2007, filling a building abandoned by a Land's End call center that also closed. An Allstate representative says the company leases the building, an agreement that does not expire until 2014.

They were talking about closing it back in 2008 only a year after they opened it, it has nothing to do with the local government.

As much as I would like to blame Walker, we gotta acknowledge Allstate and their rates. I had all my insurance with them for years. Despite their advertising, their rates are sky high and no longer competitive. I had to say good-bye to them a couple years ago.

Chalk a big minus for our so called governor who claimed he was going to create all these jobs. More than 200 people are going to lose their job. What's wrong with this picture, what's wrong with this governor????

They were just advertising and hiring for claims position. And now they are closing. One word: WOW!
