A string of armed robberies in the area has police searching for answers, they say if they can make a handful of arrests they can probably stop this crime spree.
Madison Police say the same group that came into Players Sports Bar with weapons and pepper spray are likely the same group that hit Burrito Drive on Brearly Street. And the connections don't stop there, they say those cases are related to the armed robbery at Toppers Pizza off Mineral Point Road along with up to 4 other armed robberies throughout the city.
"Two guys came into the kitchen both with bandannas, guns, told us all to get on the ground," says Zakk King, the general manager at Burrito Street.
He says the masked men forced them to turn over money and then pepper sprayed everyone. Joel DeSpain with Madison Police says it's the unusual aspects tying the cases together.
"We've seen what detectives call more of a takeover robbery," says DeSpain.
He says in most cases the robbers are wearing masks, demanding that everyone get on the ground, and have used or threatened to use pepper spray in some.
"One that just took place yesterday, we believe one that took place in the downtown area, a daytime armed robbery, is likely also linked to this string of armed robberies we've been seeing in the city."
Canvassing the neighborhoods, and showing pictures of the suspects, police say they're hoping to put a stop to these robberies soon.
"We have a lot of our staff working on this, it's a very high priority, we have detectives from different districts working on this, and our crime analysts."
Police say if you do find yourself being robbed, you should do what the robbers tell you.
