VIDEO REPORT: Police Have 3 in Custody for Possible Shooting Near UW-Madison Housing

UPDATED Wednesday, March 6, 2013--6:15p.m.
MADISON--Around 9:30 last night police responded to calls of shots fired in the University Houses and Eagle Heights area. Both complexes are university owned and operated."We did detain two individuals at that point, had another individual that fled from officers and after utilizing a canine and officers to be able to search the area approximately two hours later located the third individual that we believe was involved in this situation," said Sgt. Aaron Chapin, of the UW Police Department.

All three were arrested, but they're not releasing their names or any potential charges right now. "We don't believe that there was anybody who is affiliated with the university who was involved in this situation and the investigation is still continuing to try to figure out exactly why this took place where it took place," he said.

Police don't believe anyone was injured and they also don't believe there's any on-going threat to the UW community. But they are encouraging campus community members to follow good safety practices. "To be aware of things that don't look quite right within their community and to report that to police, to be aware of your surroundings," said Sgt. Chapin.

With five shootings in two days this week, we also stopped by the Madison Police Department to ask if they think any of them are related or not; they say it's something they're looking into. "Certainly it's very concerning that we've had these many incidents of gunfire in and around the greater Madison area, to include the UW campus, in just a couple of days," said PIO Joel DeSpain. "Whether or not any two of these or all of these are connected, this is something the investigators are going to be taking a look at."

Police are asking that if you have information about any of these incidents, that you please contact them or Crime stoppers.
