This time of year is the most difficult for families who have children with life-threatening illnesses.
"This is our major push time through the winter months for financial assistance for families. Heating bills are through the roof, gas bills. It's a very very hard time on families," said Anne Spurgeon with the Badger Childhood Cancer Network in Madison.
She works closely with the American Family Children's Hospital to provide emotional and financial support for parents of kids who have cancer.
The Network relies solely on the community's donations to offer that much-needed assistance.
"We always need gift cards for groceries or gas. Those will go straight into the hands of a family in need. Also for restaurants for families that are traveling back and forth a lot. It really helps families to have food provided. It's a huge expense," Spurgeon said.
The best way to donate is to go to the network's website: badgerchildhoodcancer.org.
